Hi! I am from Southern Star and we’re currently casting married couples for a new entertainment TV show on Channel 7. We’re on the search for happily married, fun couples with a good sense of humour!

Gypsy- As long as you do it when necessary when I'm in the car with you, then I'll refrain from leaning over and honking when you're driving :).

Rassles- I have to say that I'm actually very surprised by that, I would have pegged you as a honker.

Taskers- I saw an old comment you had left and thought I'd check in and see what you were up to. We loved living in Dallas, it's not as hot and humid as Houston-- but bottom line is TX people are very nice (when they not carrying their guns, haha).

MamaBird- I should practice more patience, I'm going to work on that.

Marvin- Yep, that's exactly why I'm happy to drive. There are actually so many things I hate about my husband's driving that it's really best that way. Though he hates my driving, so we're probably best to get a chauffeur?

I have a mental list of the plusses and negatives about living in America. One of the things that I absolutely love is being able to turn on red lights.

So I was quite shocked you did not have a go at the stupid system of waiting for a green light to turn with the traffic.

I know that I occassionally go into Aussie mode when driving and stop at a red light when turning - and there is no shortage of horns peeping behind me when I do.

Although from a place where they test drive you in the car park for a licence it is sometimes very scary driving in Florida.

I generally don't honk. In large cities, honking can earn you a bullet. Shooting back will just garner unwanted attention from the police. However, when I do honk, my wife invariably claims that I was being inappropriate. Then she insists that I honk when I don't think it's appropriate.

I think it really boils down to, "you want to honk, then YOU drive." It's all about power and control. Since she refuses to drive, then she relinquishes control of the horn. But not the radio, unfortunately.

Hi! I didn't know you still checked our family blog - how cool! As you can see, I don't give it much attention (I'm so lazy that way). I love reading your tales - especially your view on life in Aus - the changing view will be something you'll love to look back on over the years.

Yes, we are now in Texas. The project didn't work out in LA, so my hubby's company moved us to Houston 6 months ago. We love it - for so many reasons (which you probably read about). I do agree, however, that the weather SUCKS! It was a balmy 82 today, and the humidity was pretty low and we actually had a breeze. I think the thing I hate the most is I can't ever open up the house and air it out - I feel like the place stinks (I'm sure it doesn't, but I just think it does).

Are you planning a trip back to the US any time soon? My husband just applied for his Green Card, so we're actually looking for an extension here so he can get his citizenship, with no plans for even a visit back to Perth even though I'd like to (he doesn't want to do the trip with the kids).

I hate to honk but I will when needed, my husband on the other hand wants to honk all the damn time. I do believe that I have told him on more than one occasion to not touch the steering wheel while I am driving.
